12 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Rendering Company

Rendering is a big job and hard to undo, so choosing the right contractor matters more than saving a few hundred pounds. Ask these questions of every company you consider, us included.

1. Are you insured? Ask to see current public liability insurance.

2. Can I see recent work and speak to past customers? Look for jobs near you and similar to yours.

4. What does the quote include? Scaffold, preparation, beads and trims, sills and reveals, waste removal, clean-up.

5. Who will be working on my house? Ask about the size of the team and who supervises.

6. What does the warranty cover, and is it in writing? Materials, workmanship and exclusions can all differ.

7. How long will it take, and what if the weather turns? Look for a realistic programme, not a promise of speed.

8. How do payments work? Be cautious about large deposits. Stage payments tied to progress are fairer.

9. How will you protect my property? Windows, doors, plants, driveways and neighbours.

10. What happens if something goes wrong after the job? A reliable contractor explains their aftercare.

11. Who arranges the scaffold and any licences? Check this is clear in the quote.

12. Where can I check your reviews and company details? Independent platforms and Companies House are good places to start.

Warning signs

• No written, itemised quote.

• Pressure to decide on the spot or a "today only" price.

• A price far below every other quote.

• Cash-only payment or a demand for most of the money up front.

• No address, company details or insurance to show.

• Reluctance to explain what system will be used.
