Why we may still visit

Photos give a good first idea, but a site visit is sometimes needed, for instance to tap-test the walls, check damp, measure accurately, check access for scaffold or look at fine details. The final price depends on that survey.

What a good quote should include

• The walls and areas covered, with measurements or a clear description.

• The named render system and finish, including colour and texture.

• Preparation and repairs, including any removal of old render.

• Scaffold, and whether a licence is needed.

• Beads, trims, sills, reveals and other extras.

• Waste removal and clean-up.

• The warranty, and what it covers.

• Payment terms and an expected programme.

• How long the quote stays valid.

Comparing quotes

Line them up item by item. Differences usually come from the system, the amount of preparation, whether scaffold is included and the quality of detailing. The cheapest quote is rarely the same job as the others.
