What Does a 10-Year Render Warranty Really Cover?

Not all warranties are the same. A warranty on materials is not the same as a guarantee on workmanship, and the small print decides what you can actually claim for.
Three different protections
Protection | What it usually covers | Who gives it |
Materials warranty | Defects in the render products themselves, such as failure of the material | The manufacturer or the contractor |
Workmanship guarantee | Faults in how the work was done | The contractor |
Insurance-backed guarantee | Pays out if the contractor can't put things right | An insurer, through a scheme |
What Alb Render's warranty covers
Our 10-year warranty covers the materials used in our rendering systems, helping protect against problems with durability, colour retention and weather resistance. We explain exactly what it does and doesn't include before work starts.

Typical exclusions
Most warranties don't cover:
Movement or settlement in the building.
Damage from impact, vandalism or other building work.
Damp or defects in the wall that were present before.
Lack of reasonable maintenance.
Alterations by others, such as fixings through the render.
Cosmetic changes from ordinary weathering.
Questions to ask any contractor
Is the warranty in writing, and who issues it?
What exactly is covered: materials, labour or both?
How long does it last, and is it transferable if I sell?
What do I need to do to keep it valid?
How do I make a claim, and what proof will I need?
Does the contractor offer a separate workmanship guarantee?
Keep your paperwork
Keep the quote, invoice, the system specification, completion photos and the warranty document in one place. If you sell the house, buyers' solicitors often ask for them.
