How Long Does It Take to Render a House?

A full-house render typically takes about one to two weeks of site time, depending on the size of the house, the system and the weather. A single elevation or small extension can take a few days, while insulated render takes longer.

The stages

  1. Survey and quote. We look at photos or visit the property, check wall condition and give a written quote. This usually takes a few days.

  2. Booking. Allow for lead times, especially in spring and summer. Booking a survey in autumn or winter helps secure a spring start.

  3. Scaffold. Erected before work begins, usually in a day. Pavement scaffold needs a council licence, which can add lead time.

  4. Preparation. Cleaning, repairs, removal of loose material, and protecting windows and doors.

  5. Basecoat and mesh. The reinforced base layer goes on and needs time to cure.

  6. Primer and finish coat. Applied once the basecoat is ready, followed by detailing and trims.

  7. Clean-up and scaffold removal. The site is cleared and the scaffold is taken down.

  8. Final inspection. We walk the property with you before sign-off.

These are guides, not promises. Your survey gives the real programme.

What can cause delays

  • Weather. Rain, frost and very hot or windy days can pause work. Render needs suitable conditions to cure properly.

  • Hidden repairs. Damp, rotten timber or loose brick discovered once old render comes off.

  • Access and permissions. Scaffold licences, parking suspensions and awkward access.

  • Changes of mind. Adding extra elevations or details mid-job.

How to help the job run smoothly

  • Clear the base of the walls and move garden furniture, pots and bins.

  • Trim back climbing plants.

  • Tell us about any alarms, satellite dishes or cables on the walls.

  • Agree colour and finish before work starts.
